Old and new friends coming together for a unique Wangaratta Festival collaboration, combining French, American and Australian musicians with a shared love of melody and beauty of sound. Philippe Guidat (guitar) and Nadje Noordhuis (trumpet) met as Fellows at the upstate New York Music Omi Artist Residency when Adam Simmons (woodwinds) was the Guest Mentor. Joining them are Pascal Rollando (percussion), James Shipp (vibes/percussion) and Chris Hale (bass).
Adam Simmons is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and educator, involved across many different scenes within Melbourne and beyond, performing contemporary jazz, punk, afro-beat, new music, traditional Japanese honkyo-ku, funk and free noise/improve. He regularly performs internationally and has worked with artists from USA, Poland, France, Germany, UK, Italy, Netherlands, Greece and New Caledonia. His ensembles include Origami and the renowned Adam Simmons Toy Band. He is currently teaching shakuhachi at University of Melbourne. Adam’s current projects includes his new initiative, “The Usefulness of Art” presenting five projects across 2017-18, with the first available digitally at his bandcamp site.
