10pm, Sunday October 30 – WPAC Theatre
James Morrison is Australia’s best-known jazz musician, known throughout the world for his sheer brilliance as a jazz musician and an all round entertainer. James could rest on his laurels as an exciting, flamboyant trumpeter, but he is equally convincing on a range of other instruments, including trombone, saxophone, piano, euphonium and EWI. He is constantly on the move, touring everywhere and anywhere fine music has an audience. He has worked with all manner of greats, including Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Don Burrows, Ray Brown, Red Rodney : the list could go on.
James has been made a member of the Order of AustraliaHis recordings are best sellers and James works with the cream of the world’s best performers. His current band features sons William (guitar) and Harry (bass) – their casual brilliance and unforced sense of swing come as no surprise – along with drummer Patrick Danao. They recently enjoyed a triumphant tour of Europe, including sold-out shows at Ronnie Scott’s and the Prague Proms. They will be joined at Wangaratta by some special guests, including vocalist Olivia Chindamo, winner of the 2016 Bell award for Best Young Australian Jazz Artist.
Ray Brown called him “The Genius” but Wynton Marsalis said it best: “Man, James Morrison can play!”
