On the occasion of a celebration of the life of Allan Browne, our dear mate and fellow musical traveller, Brett Iggulden and I put together a band that seemingly represented our shared musical histories on and off the bandstand over many decades.
On the night the band was Brett Iggulden trumpet, Julien Wilson saxophone, Howard Cairns double bass, John Scurry guitar, Lynn Wallis drums.
All of us had played at varying stages in either The Red Onions, Allan Browne’s Rascals, Virus as well as other numerous informal groupings. We all shared a deep love for both early jazz and swing as the music of our youth and it’s many iterations into the present. Allan was central to these bands either as leader or as a dep. Needless to say that his contribution as recorded is legendary and part of our Australian jazz story.
