Suzaku is the latest incarnation of Niran Dasika, a young trumpet player garnering much attention both in Japan and in Australia following placing second in the 2017 Wangaratta Jazz Festival’s National Jazz Awards.
Born in Canada and raised in Melbourne with Indian and German heritage, Niran based himself in Tokyo from 2016-2017 and is currently active in the Japanese and Australian jazz scenes. ‘Suzaku’ is a set of compositions informed by his experiences both in the urban metropolis and the various internal landscapes of Japan.
For this performance Niran is joined by Sumire Kuribayashi (JPN), Shun Ishiwaka (JPN) and Sam Anning (AU). Resonating with a remarkably wide range of audiences, AllAboutJazz.com describes Suzaku as “like birds singing in a placid twilight… glows with a luminescent reverence”.
