Quattro Club a new quartet consisting of Niko Schauble (drums), Mirko Guerrini, Joel Hands-Otte (woodwinds) and Dan Gordon (tuba) is an improvising chamber music ensemble that crosses the borders between contemporary composition concepts and jazz improvisatio n with ease.
The absence of a chordal instrument allows a free flowing polyphony to develop. Compositions function as starting points for gently morphing group explorations, interspersed with captive and virtuosic solos. Niko Schauble and Mirko Guerrini are two of the most creative musicians and composers in Australia. They have developed a close and intense musical relationship playing together in ensembles such as Acquachetta, Torrio!, Radiosuccessi and the MJC Collective.
In Quattro Club they are joined by Dan Gordon, a classically trained tuba player who has pursued a 30-year career as a freelance musician, specialising in the full spectrum of jazz styles from the earliest roots to the modern cutting edge experimental, and Joel Hands-Otte, a most exciting young and upcoming talent and a fresh voice on clarinets and all things woodwind.
