Sumire Kuribayashi is a Japanese pianist and composer gaining increasing renown within Japan and overseas. She has performed with Japanese jazz legends Hino Terumasa, Hideaki Kanazawa, Naoko Terai and has released four critically acclaimed albums. April 2018 saw Sumire release two consecutive albums, ‘Pieces of Color’ and ‘The Story Behind’ to extensive touring within Japan and throughout Europe.

Jazzconvention.net describes Sumire as “belonging to the young generation of Japanese jazz scene, Kuribayashi has become in the last few years one of the most appreciated pianists both for her noteworthy creative qualities and the remarkable storytelling that crosses the textures of her music”.

‘Pieces of Color’ (‘Kōsai’) is Sumire at her most extravagant, expanding her usual piano trio to accommodate longer forms, orchestral textures and Sumire’s unique approach to beauty and storytelling. It features Sumire Kuribayashi (p), Akihiro Yoshimoto (saxophones), Australian artists Niran Dasika (tp) and James Macaulay (tb), Reiko Yamamoto (vibes), Tomohiro Yahiro (percussion), Yuki Ito (bass), Hideaki Kanazawa (bass), Hiro Kimura (drums) and Kengo Komae (drums).
