Growing up in what she describes as the ‘village’ of Cairns in the 1950s, Wilma Reading was discovered performing at a Brisbane jazz club while on a school softball tour. This proved to be the catalyst for an international career that spanned the globe. Highlights included touring with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, appearing on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, featuring at New York’s Copacabana Night Club and starring on London’s West End.
After a hiatus, Reading has returned to the limelight collaborating with fellow Queenslander, Andrew Butt at major festivals including the Brisbane International Jazz Festival, Stonnington Jazz and the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival.
Andrew’s accolades include being a multiple finalist and winner of the Queensland Music Awards, a Churchill Fellow and featuring as a jazz soloist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Be a part of this magical evening of jazz with an eclectic program of traditional standards and original music from Andrew’s latest release Blueberry Ash.
