Jazz Mass and its history
Bob Sedergreen and Annemarie Sharry at Jazz Mass on Sunday November 3rd at 10am
Annemarie Sharry is a graduate of the Victorian College Of The Arts, and recipient of the Mabel Kent Singing Scholarship, Annemarie has worked for many years, as both a vocal soloist and choral educator.
As co-founder and Musical Director of Melbourne based SOUTH OF THE RIVER CHOIR, she led the choir to the finals of the ABC Classic FM Choir of the Year Awards in 2006.
This dynamic community choir explores the music and rhythms of Africa, traditional African American gospel and original Australian compositions, through workshops and festivals and have just celebrated their 20-year anniversary.
Bob Sedergreen has worked with famous African American jazz icons like Jimmy Witherspoon, Dizzy Gillespie, Nat Adderley, andRed Holloway. These experiences have led Bob to acknowledge that Blues and Gospel styles are the roots of jazz music. In Australia Bob has worked with two iconic gospel Queens, being Judy Jacques and Kerri Simpson and both these artists have performed at the Gospel service on numerous occasions with Bob on piano.
Bob and Annemarie Sharry have collaborated for many years not only with Annemarie’s choirs but also in Annemarie’s popular and very long lasting Bossserach show. This year they have chosen to perform items recorded by jazz royalty including Ray Charles, Sister Rosetta Tharp , Nina Simone, Sarsh Vaughan and many others
